What is the SLV RSVP?
"The San Luis Valley Retired Senior Volunteer Program helps individuals age 55 and older put their skills and life experiences to work for their communities," says SLV RSVP Director, Patt Morgan-Lloyd. "Seniors are a valuable, often overlooked resource with the advantage of broad perspectives on life. Seniors also have skills and work habits developed through decades as productive workers."
For 25 years, RSVP has matched problems to be solved with people willing to help. Today, more than 450,000 seniors participate in RSVP, making it one of the largest volunteer efforts in the nation. You can be part of this family of caring volunteers that is solving problems and bringing our communities together.
What do RSVP Volunteers do?
They do just about everything -- from tutoring students and renovating homes to planting gardens and staffing museums. However they choose to serve, RSVP vollunteers meet community needs and made a lasting difference.
Why do RSVP Volunteers get involved?
Some people feel a lack of productivity when they no longer have a regular work site or schedule. RSVP helps seniors stay active and involved. Volunteers join a large service network, learning new skills or using hte know-how they's developed over a lifetime.
Many RSVP volunteers have lived in their communities for a long time. Because the community has given to them, they see serving as a way to give something back. RSVP volunteers discover that when they give, they gain a lot too. Studies show that seniors who volunteer live longer, healthier and more fulfilling lives.
